Doula on O’ahu – Yvonne Gray – Wunderbirth

Hi there, my name is Yvonne Gray and I am a birth doula, lactation counselor and educator serving Monterey County and beyond. I was born and raised in Germany. In 2000 I started working as an AuPair and my life in the US began in beautiful Maryland which is also where I also met my husband in October 2006.

Three months later I was pregnant and I told him right before Valentine’s Day. A couple of months after that we got engaged and then shortly after we were married in Las Vegas when I was 24 weeks along – June 30th, 2007. Talk about a shot gun wedding!!! (We just celebrated our 10 years anniversary) We had to wait a little while for me to be added to his military orders until we could finally move in together. Right around Labor Day we had our small apartment set up and were ready for baby boy #1 to arrive! All within less than a year!

My personal journey into motherhood started with an unplanned cesarean and some breastfeeding challenges. We had taken a Bradley method child birth education class to get educated. Then we choose an independent Birth Center – Special Beginnings in Maryland to have our baby. However like so many of us we were very unprepared for labor when it actually happened and I ended up with my first cesarean birth. Followed by a second and third.

Once I surrounded myself with an amazing support system, I was able to finally succeed and have a home birth after three cesareans. Yup, that’s right. I was told many many times this would NOT be possible!!! But I did it, and now I know that nothing is out of reach.

So for the past 6 years it has become my mission to support other women to overcome or even avoid any obstacles while transitioning into motherhood. Birth should not be something we fear but rather something we look forward to. We all like to go on trips. With little money or thousands to spend; and we usually spend lots of time preparing and getting ready for the next trip. I really think we should approach our birth plans the same way. We should check where to stay. My husband and I always check Tripdadvisor before we book anything. We even compare hotels. With births we don’t do this. We usually pick a doctor that was recommended to us by somebody and then follow along but the single most important decision one can make is choosing the right provider for the birth we would be looking forward to.

Let Birth be your best adventure yet!

So wander…wander around the internet, ask friends, read book and blogs and find somebody that shares your believes and who will try their best to help you to have the birth YOU are hoping for and deserve!
